Caitlin Clark was on the verge of receiving a one-game suspension after what was initially deemed her eighth technical foul of the season. However, the WNBA took swift action to address the situation. The league rescinded the technical foul given to the Indiana Fever star during their victory over the Chicago Sky. This decision removed the penalty that would have automatically sidelined Clark for one game.
If the technical had remained in place, Clark would have missed Tuesday’s game against the New York Liberty, posing a significant challenge for Indiana as they continue their season. A WNBA spokesperson informed The Associated Press that the technical was rescinded just hours after the game concluded.
The incident occurred in the third quarter when Clark made contact with a referee after being pushed out of bounds. She was called for a technical foul, yet the Fever secured a 90-86 win. Clark contested the technical almost immediately, asserting that the contact was accidental and not exacerbated by any verbal exchange.
Facing a possible suspension, Clark expressed hope that the league would review and overturn the decision. She stated, “She said I ran into her. I have already watched it on the tape. So, we’ll let the league decide. But, it wasn’t anything intentional or anything. So, I hope it gets rescinded. And, nothing was said.”
Clark’s optimism was justified as the league reviewed the play and decided in her favor. This development allows Clark to continue contributing to her team’s efforts uninterrupted.
