Actor Zachary Levi shared insights on his decision to leave California for Texas and his latest film project during a conversation with Fox News Digital. Known for his roles in ‘Chuck’ and ‘Shazam!’, Levi is set to feature in the action-thriller ‘The Fix’.
Departure from California
In 2017, Levi left his home in Los Angeles, where he had grown up, to buy a ranch outside Austin, Texas. At 45, he described California as a ‘failed state’, embroiled in challenges both literal and figurative. Despite California’s famed weather and his personal ties there, Levi felt a calling to build something more impactful in Texas.
Zachary Levi described his move from California, expressing his desire to create a better version of Hollywood in Texas, which he saw as a more promising environment for the future.
His move aimed to rethink the entertainment industry’s operation, advocating for artist-led ventures that minimize intermediaries. This vision is taking shape in Wyldwood Studios, a $100 million facility merging film production with lifestyle amenities on his 75-acre property near Austin.
Wyldwood Studios Project
Wyldwood Studios is more than a typical film studio. It’s conceived as a community hub where people can not only work but also live, educate their children, and engage in sustainable living. Levi envisions opening the first soundstages by 2027, combining production offices with residential and wellness spaces.
‘The Fix’ and Levi’s New Role
‘The Fix’, directed by Guy Moshe, introduces Levi in a darker, more intense role than usual. He plays Tucker, leading a team of disgraced former CIA operatives in a covert mission. The film explores themes of moral ambiguity, redemption, and the personal lives of the characters.
Levi’s co-star Liam Neeson praised the film’s script, director, and Levi’s performance. Neeson appreciated Levi’s transition to a grittier character, a departure from his typical roles. The cast also includes Annet Mahendru, Grant Harvey, and Elnaaz Norouzi, who praised Levi for creating an engaging on-screen relationship.
In an interview, director Moshe highlighted Levi’s physicality and unexpected presence as an action star, noting his suitability for the role. Norouzi, playing Levi’s character’s romantic interest, emphasized Levi’s ability to foster on-screen chemistry, which she described as rare.
Upcoming Release
‘The Fix’ is set for a theater release on September 11, marking Levi’s venture into dramatic and action-based film genres while continuing to evolve his career.
