Whoopi Goldberg Challenges Audience on Knicks Loss Blame

3 weeks ago 0

“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg addressed her audience on Tuesday regarding their reaction to the New York Knicks’ loss, which some attributed to President Donald Trump’s presence at the game. The Knicks had their first NBA Finals game since 1999 at Madison Square Garden after two victorious matches against the San Antonio Spurs. Trump, a Knicks fan and New York native, attended upon invitation from team owner James Dolan. The Spurs won 115-111, leading to frustration among Knicks fans, some of whom blamed the loss on Trump.

Goldberg stated, “A lot of Knicks fans are not happy with you-know-who right now,” referring to Trump. She expressed dissatisfaction with blaming the loss on him, arguing, “They were not playing great ball. That was on us.”

She remarked on the logistical challenges Trump’s visit brought to the city, saying, “He came into town, messed up everything, you couldn’t go — you couldn’t make a left. You couldn’t make a right. Couldn’t go across the street. You couldn’t buy anything.” Goldberg insisted the team, not Trump, should shoulder the responsibility, emphasizing, “No, no, no, now, come on now. They were not playing great ball. That was on us.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin made a face, to which Goldberg replied, “I see your face, and I know how you feel, and you can say what you want. But by saying that it’s his fault that we lost means that there’s no responsibility taken. These guys were not playing at their best.” Hostin argued Trump brought negative energy, stating, “For me, what is also in play is that we had an impeccable vibe in New York until the orange man showed up and put the bad juju on the Madison Square Garden.”

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin commented that during winning streaks, it is risky for a president to attend games as they could be blamed for losses. However, she acknowledged Trump’s long-standing Knicks fandom.

Goldberg expressed her view that attendance rights are part of being a fan, regardless of personal opinions. “I think anybody who’s a Knicks fan should be there,” she said. “You earned the right as a Knicks fan. I don’t have to like you.” She continued, “Trump and Mayor Mamdani are Knicks fans and have been, they’re New Yorkers, and … there’s nothing either one of them can do to change what’s happening in this city for this team.”
