The New York Knicks achieved a remarkable comeback in the NBA Finals, overcoming a 29-point deficit to beat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106. This win gave them a 3-1 lead in the series.
The decisive moment was OG Anunoby’s tip-in off a missed Jalen Brunson three-pointer. Madison Square Garden erupted in excitement as the Knicks snatched the victory.
The game had a rocky start for the Knicks. Karl-Anthony Towns committed two fouls within the first 62 seconds, unsettling the team early on. This allowed the Spurs to go on a 41-20 run, largely while Towns was off the court. The Spurs built a 76-49 lead by halftime, powered by hitting 54% of their three-pointers.
However, the Knicks staged a comeback. They reduced the lead to 15 by the end of the third quarter. A slow beginning to the fourth quarter saw the San Antonio lead increase to 20, but the Knicks answered with a 13-2 run to bring it within nine points. With seven minutes left, it was down to seven points. The gap closed to four points with 4:32 remaining. The Knicks then took the lead with 90 seconds left, igniting the arena with energy.
“They never counted themselves out,” said head coach Mike Brown, who praised the team’s resilience.
The Spurs briefly regained the lead with two free throws with 30 seconds to go, but the Knicks capitalized with Anunoby’s critical tip-in.
Brown called Anunoby’s play the greatest in the history of Knicks basketball. The team outscored the Spurs 58-30 in the second half, marking this as one of the most significant comebacks in NBA Finals history.
