Sixteen years after the biographical drama “The Social Network,” a new film, “The Social Reckoning,” brings Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s story back to the screen. Directed by Aaron Sorkin, this upcoming drama has released its first look, capturing excitement for several reasons.
“The Social Reckoning” features a talented cast, including Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White and Oscar winner Mikey Madison. Jeremy Strong plays the role of Zuckerberg, taking over from Jesse Eisenberg, who portrayed the role in “The Social Network.” The new film will focus on the 2021 whistleblowing incident involving Facebook. Mikey Madison takes on the role of engineer Frances Haugen, the whistleblower who leaked Facebook documents to the Wall Street Journal.
The film also stars Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, and Bill Burr. Scheduled for release on October 9, it is a production of Columbia Pictures, Alcon Entertainment, and The Gotham Group, in association with Escape Artists. Sony Pictures Releasing manages distribution.
The unveiling of the first look stirred excitement on social media. Viewers praised the impressive cast lineup. Comments highlighted Jeremy Strong, Jeremy Allen White, and Mikey Madison as a powerful ensemble for a tech drama.
One enthusiastic viewer remarked, “White as the Wall Street Journal reporter and Madison as Haugen? Sorkin going full whistleblower mode.” Another noted, “If the writing is as good as the original, this could be serious cinema again.” Additionally, some speculated about potential cameos and surprises within the film.
Besides the casting discussions, audiences were impressed by Strong’s interpretation of Zuckerberg, notably his delivery of the line, “I’m not two years out of a dorm room anymore Charlie!” This statement signifies the growth of Facebook and the accompanying challenges since its early days in the 2000s.
