Father of Murder Victim Speaks on Trial Outcome and Lack of Remorse

1 week ago 0

Jeff Metcalf, father of Austin Metcalf, has expressed his disappointment that Karmelo Anthony’s family did not reach out or show remorse after the fatal stabbing of his son. Austin Metcalf was killed by Anthony, aged 19, during a track meet in Frisco, Texas, when both were 17 years old. Anthony received a 35-year prison sentence earlier this month after being convicted of murder. The case gained national attention due to racial aspects discussed on social media.

Metcalf’s father spoke out against framing the incident in racial terms during an interview on ‘The Will Cain Show’ on Fox News. He stated that he had requested the matter not to be politicized or racialized, but those aspects were chosen to be highlighted. Metcalf revealed he had hoped to hear from Anthony’s family to receive accountability and remorse, but none were shown.

During the interview, Cain asked Metcalf if he had any communication with the Anthonys. Metcalf confirmed he had received no contact or apology. He remarked that Anthony’s family and advocates left the courtroom immediately after the verdict and did not attend the sentencing or victim impact statements. According to Metcalf, Anthony was left alone during these significant moments.

Many have argued over the racial implications of the trial and verdict. Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett stated that the verdict might have differed if Anthony had been white. The jury in Anthony’s trial had no Black members, though some were people of color.

This story is still unfolding, with more updates to follow.
