The Justice Department has retracted subpoenas that were previously issued to compel journalists from The Post and the Wall Street Journal to testify before a grand jury. The subpoenas were related to their reporting on national security matters.
Both newspapers engaged in closed legal proceedings in federal court to resist these subpoenas. The government decided to withdraw the subpoenas before any judicial ruling was made on the matter.
