Paget Brewster Apologizes After Criticizing Journalist

6 days ago 0

Criminal Minds star Paget Brewster has apologized after publicly criticizing entertainment reporter Shealyn Scott. Brewster addressed the issue on X, where she had initially criticized an article by ScreenRant writer Scott.

The actor, known for her role in the CBS show and its Paramount+ reboot Criminal Minds: Evolution, had directed a critical comment towards Scott, suggesting she find a new career. In a now-deleted message, she told Scott, “You’re young. You don’t know that bad pics and bad reviews can lead to 350 people losing their jobs. Sell vintage. Work at a shelter. Do something better than what you do now. Because right now you suck,” as reported by Variety.

After receiving criticism from entertainment critics and social media users, Brewster issued a public apology, stating, “Hi guys, I was mean to Shealyn Scott last night and I profoundly regret it. Shame on me for insulting a human being for doing their job. I’m very sorry, Shealyn. And I’m sorry to those who follow me that you saw me behave like that. Turns out, last night, I sucked.” Brewster’s X bio emphasizes kindness, indicating, “I also love that we humans are all different but the same, too. Choose kindness.”

Scott posted on X that Brewster had reached out privately to apologize and expressed her continued enthusiasm for covering the show. She wrote, “To be clear, Paget also reached out privately to apologize to me! Criminal Minds is still one of my all-time favorite shows, and I’m very excited to continue covering s19 (and hopefully beyond!).”

The ScreenRant article in question included a photo of Brewster and critiqued several changes in the show’s reboot. Scott noted the series often feels different from the original, particularly pointing out the 10-episode season format and its transition to a TV-MA rating.

Scott began her article by noting, “Criminal Minds: Evolution sometimes feels unrecognizable from the original series, but the biggest format change is finally catching up with Paramount+.” She added that while some changes have been well-received, the shortened season structure does not play to the series’ strengths.

The original Criminal Minds series aired on CBS from 2005 to 2020. Its streaming successor began in 2022 and is now in its 19th season.
