The search for Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, a 22-year-old suspected of a series of Kansas City shootings, has ended after seven days. The suspect reportedly killed one person and injured four others during a shooting rampage.
His family informed the police about discovering a decomposing body in a burned home’s basement. This location is close to Kansas City World Cup venues. The family had searched the house multiple times since it caught fire in a police standoff. Previously visited without success, the remains were finally found under debris, leading the search to a close.
Sanchez-Munoz was linked to at least six shootings across several states, including an attack on an Uber driver transporting soccer fans. The FBI issued a wanted poster along with a $25,000 reward for relevant information, emphasizing the suspect was armed and dangerous.
The house where the body was found had partially collapsed, was filled with water, and became cluttered, hindering search efforts. Despite thorough checks by K-9 units and investigators, the challenging conditions delayed the discovery of the body.
The shootings occurred near Interstate 70, just miles from Arrowhead Stadium, amid FIFA World Cup activities. As the multi-agency effort to capture Sanchez-Munoz ends, authorities note clothing on the body matched what was worn during the attacks. The medical examiner will confirm the identity and cause of death.
Federal officials assured the community that no ongoing threat exists. They also stated that the victims are expected to recover from their injuries.
