A unique gathering took place on Saturday in Washington Square Park, where about 100 bald individuals came together to embrace their baldness. This event aimed to encourage self-acceptance and a sense of empowerment among participants.
Despite years of struggling with baldness, attendees, mainly men but also some women, expressed pride in their appearance. The rain did not deter the crowd, as many bald men chose to leave their hats at home, feeling no need to conceal their heads.
Phil Myers, a comedian, addressed the audience, leading enthusiastic chants of ‘Bald is beautiful!’ and ‘Bald! Bald! Bald!’
As the rain continued, those who usually wore hats embraced their baldness openly. Justin Bradford, a freelance video producer and the organizer of the event, voiced his views on societal perceptions of baldness. He sold ‘I Love New York’ T-shirts featuring a bald head in place of the heart.
Bradford, aged 31, remarked, ‘I’m not going to say bald people are looked down upon, but sometimes people think you’re kind of unfortunate. I don’t think that’s the case at all, especially when we’re all together.’
