3 hours ago 0

In a thrilling match at Estadio Azteca, England defeated Mexico 3-2, marking Mexico’s first World Cup loss at this venue. Jude Bellingham scored twice within 98 seconds, stunning the crowd of over 80,000. His goals came in the 36th and 38th minutes, with the second assisted by Harry Kane.

Despite losing Jarell Quansah to a red card in the 54th minute for a foul on Jesús Gallardo, England secured a penalty when Mexico’s goalkeeper, Raúl Rangel, challenged. Harry Kane converted the penalty, matching Gerd Müller’s record for fifth place on the all-time World Cup scoring list with 14 goals.

Julián Quiñones scored for Mexico in the 42nd minute, giving hope to the home crowd. Raúl Jiménez later narrowed the score to 3-2 by converting a penalty with a strategic stutter-step.

In the final minutes, Mexico attacked fiercely, but England’s goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and the defense maintained their lead. England will face Norway in Miami Gardens, Florida, for a chance to advance to the semifinals.

Mexico has not reached the World Cup quarterfinals since they hosted in 1986, as they were eliminated in the round of 16 eight times and failed to advance beyond the group stage in 2022.
