Russia launched a major missile and drone assault on Kyiv overnight, resulting in at least seven fatalities and 24 injuries, according to local authorities. This attack occurred shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of an imminent large-scale strike.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s City Military Administration, reported the damage on Telegram. A residential building in the Podilskyi district partially collapsed, while several multistory buildings in the Darnytsia district sustained damage. People remained trapped under the rubble.
“These are residential buildings. Places where people slept and lived their ordinary lives,”
explained Tkachenko.
The assault involved a series of ballistic and cruise missiles, alongside drones. Explosions echoed throughout the city, forcing civilians to seek shelter in metro stations.
Zelenskyy had cautioned hours earlier about the looming attack. This recent assault follows just days after a combined Russian attack in Kyiv led to the deaths of at least 31 people.
The Ukrainian president reiterated his appeal for Western allies to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses. On Sunday, Zelenskyy stressed on Telegram the urgency of replenishing supplies, especially Patriot missiles, to prevent Russia from extending its four-year conflict.
