A video released by the Department of Homeland Security shows a Canadian woman, Kaitlyn Tracey, allegedly slapping a teenager in New Jersey. Tracey confronted a group wearing clothing with words supporting Trump and ICE. She is now in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody due to visa overstay.
The video shared by DHS shows Tracey approaching the teenager, striking her, then walking away. DHS referred to Tracey as a “Maple Leaf Menace” and confirmed her pending removal proceedings.
According to DHS, Tracey was in the U.S. on a visa that expired on September 6, 2024, but remained in the country afterward. After the incident on the boardwalk, the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department transferred her into ICE custody.
“This illegal alien who assaulted a teenager has no business being in our country,” DHS stated.
Matthew Geroni, claiming to be Tracey’s husband, challenged the allegations, describing the incident as exaggerated due to online attention.
“This whole situation has been blown out of proportion,” Geroni told NJ.com. “My wife has never been in trouble, and this one little situation has been blown out of control.”
The affidavit from Fox News Digital details the teenager and friends walking along the boardwalk, where Tracey berated them for their clothing. Reportedly, Tracey struck the victim once in the face and once in the body before police stopped her. Investigators later identified Tracey through social media and passport information.
Geroni posted videos seeking an immigration attorney and created a GoFundMe campaign for legal and immigration expenses, which was removed due to policy violations.
A GoFundMe spokesperson confirmed the removal, stating the platform prohibits fundraisers for legal defense of violent crimes.
Reaction from Capitol Hill included Rep. Riley Moore commenting on Tracey’s return to Canada after the video’s release.
Court records indicate Tracey will appear in Ocean County Superior Court on August 4. Her attorney, Francis R. Hodgson, declined to comment.
