1 month ago 0

Mel Gibson apologized after a video surfaced of him appearing to mock a sign language interpreter at Fan Expo Canada. The incident occurred at a panel in Toronto where Gibson was seen gesturing behind an American Sign Language (ASL) translator.

Gibson, 70, explained to Fox News Digital that his actions were a result of being distracted under the spotlight on stage. He emphasized there was no malicious intent, and he apologized to anyone offended by his behavior. Backlash quickly followed on social media.

“Always disappointing to see my language mocked,” one user commented regarding Gibson’s actions. Some felt particularly upset given the effort to have sign language recognized and respected. Others, however, minimized the situation, likening Gibson’s behavior to attempts at humor by comedians.

A video from the event showed mixed reactions from viewers. While some criticized the insensitivity, others suggested people were overly sensitive. Representatives for Fan Expo Canada did not comment.

During the expo, Gibson confirmed his involvement in post-production work for his film, “The Resurrection of the Christ.” Additionally, President Donald Trump appointed Gibson, along with Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone, as Special Ambassadors to Hollywood. Trump praised them as talented individuals capable of reviving the entertainment industry.

Gibson expressed surprise at his appointment but acknowledged his readiness to assist. He commented on the role with lightheartedness and a sense of duty. Gibson, a supporter of Trump, humorously questioned if the position included an ambassadorial residence.
