Sen. Darline Graham Steps Into Her Brother’s Role Amid Encouragement from Trump

Sen. Darline Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, shared details about her Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump. This meeting occurred shortly after her brother, the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, passed away unexpectedly. Trump expressed his condolences and offered support as she took over her brother’s Senate seat.

“The president was very sincere in his condolences about Lindsey,” Graham said during an interview with Sean Hannity on the “Hangout with Sean Hannity” podcast. “He talked about him and what a good friend he was, how he considered him family.”

Graham, who was appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to fill her brother’s seat temporarily, also used the meeting to discuss critical issues. One of these was pushing for sanctions against Russia, which was a priority for her late brother. “I went on to mention there were some things that I felt like were very important to Lindsey — Russia sanctions — and that I really wanted to push those across the finish line,” she explained.

During the meeting, Trump unexpectedly encouraged her to run in the upcoming special election, promising his full endorsement if she decided to participate.

Despite the surprise, Graham is committed to continuing her brother’s legacy and has announced her intention to run for a full Senate term. “I feel like I can do this, and the meeting with the president, it was such an honor,” she said. Graham assured Trump of her dedication, stating, “I will work hard, and I’m loyal.”
