Malik Nabers Returns to Practice After Knee Injury

New York Giants fans were thrilled to see wide receiver Malik Nabers back at practice on Wednesday. Nabers, who suffered a severe knee injury in Week 4 of last season, participated in a full practice session. His new head coach, John Harbaugh, noted that Nabers “looked good,” which delighted the organization.

No timeline has been committed regarding Nabers’ return for the 2024 season. His presence surprised many after being away due to his injury.

Nabers’ Injury Details

Nabers suffered more than just a typical knee tear. He had to wait for the swelling to subside before undergoing surgery. In the spring, he had a second surgery to remove scar tissue and alleviate stiffness.

After these two surgeries, Nabers’ availability for Week 1 or the early weeks of the season remains uncertain. Despite this, his participation in practice was a positive sign.

Practice Session Insights

General manager Joe Schoen expressed his excitement at seeing Nabers taking part in practice at The Greenbrier in West Virginia.

“We’ve got a really good plan for him,” Schoen said. “The medical staff has a really good plan for him, and we’re going to always say listen to the patients.”

Schoen affirmed that they would observe how Nabers reacts throughout camp and adjust accordingly.

Early Setback and Recovery

Nabers tore his ACL and suffered a full meniscus tear after jumping for a pass during quarterback Jaxson Dart’s first career start. As a result, he was immediately carted off the field, leaving fans concerned.

Though Nabers spent the summer in New Jersey working on his recovery with the Giants’ medical team, the timing of the injury gives hope for a return by Week 1.

Nabers’ Presence on the Field

Coach Harbaugh commented on Nabers’ performance in practice: “It was great. You saw him. He looked good.” Nabers seems to be on the right track without being placed on the physically unable to perform list.

Quarterback Dart expressed joy in throwing to Nabers, who had recently celebrated his 23rd birthday.

“There’s an aura that he has on the field that is exhilarating,” Dart said. “It makes everybody happy just to see him out there.”

Nabers’ return has been a welcomed development, and Dart supports Nabers’ approach to recovery.
