Trump Featured in Limited-Edition U.S. Passports for America’s 250th Birthday

WASHINGTON (AP) — Limited-edition U.S. passports featuring President Donald Trump will soon be available across the country to commemorate America’s 250th birthday. Initially offered only at the Washington, D.C. passport office, these special travel documents will now be accessible at 27 passport agencies nationwide, starting next month.

The passport, termed the ‘Patriot Passport,’ showcases a portrait of Trump on an interior page alongside his gold-printed signature. This marks a historic moment as Trump becomes the first living president to be featured in such a travel document. The cover design deviates from the standard passport, displaying ‘United States of America’ in bold gold print at the top and ‘Passport’ at the bottom. It also includes a small gold laminate American flag and the number 250 encircled by stars on the back cover.

Trump’s appearance in passports is part of a larger trend, where his name and likeness have been added to various high-profile items, including a gold-finished commemorative coin and, potentially, new U.S. paper currency. To meet the high demand, the State Department plans to release an additional 250,000 commemorative passports.

The department stated, “Americans all across the country will now have the opportunity to apply for one of these additional special passports.”

Starting August 8, passport offices in locations such as Centennial, Colorado; Chicago; Dallas; Detroit; New Orleans; New York; and Stamford, Connecticut will host one-day special events to issue the specific passports. Over the month, more offices will be included. Interested individuals must apply in-person on designated days as listed on the department’s website. Traditional passports are available on different dates.

Past and present presidents depicted in U.S. passports include those on Mount Rushmore: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Other illustrations feature icons like the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, and Independence Hall, as well as scenes from the Great Plains, mountains, and islands. Quotes from notable figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., and past presidents like John F. Kennedy and Dwight Eisenhower, are also included.

Trump’s enhanced visibility through his image on passports aligns with other initiatives, such as attempts to feature his name on institutions like the U.S. Institute of Peace and the Kennedy Center. Controversies have arisen from these efforts, including planned structures like a new White House ballroom and an arch entry from Virginia to Washington.
