Trump Predicts Continued Conflict with Iran

President Donald Trump stated on Friday that Americans should brace for ongoing conflict with Iran. He suggested that Tehran’s capacity to strike back would weaken due to continued U.S. strikes. When asked about the possibility of prolonged hostilities, Trump responded affirmatively. He acknowledged the need to maintain vigilance, saying, “You always have to keep your guard up.”

During a meeting at Camp David, Trump expressed beliefs that Iran would grow weaker over time. He mentioned, “They’ll get weaker. They’ll get a little stronger, maybe. But they’ll get weaker, and then they peter out.” These comments signify an understanding that the five-month-long conflict might persist, even as Trump has claimed significant damages to Iran’s military capabilities.

Trump commented on the situation, saying, “I think we just want to win. We’re doing very well. We’re trying to be nice, as nice as you can be in a situation like that, but they’re being decimated.” He emphasized that Iran’s military strength has diminished but noted, “They have no navy. They have no air force. They have no anti-aircraft. It doesn’t mean they don’t have any capability. They have some, but very little.”

The persistence of fighting challenges previous U.S. statements about neutralizing Iran’s operational capabilities. In April, the White House highlighted successes from Operation Epic Fury, including the destruction of Iran’s Navy and missile capabilities. Despite these claims, Iran has continued to launch missiles and drones at U.S. bases and threaten commercial ships.

Regarding negotiations, Trump shared his disillusionment, expressing a “loss of faith” in reaching a deal with Iran, accusing them of dishonesty in talks. “They do lie, and they do misrepresent,” he said, adding, “All they do is make me angry.”

The renewed hostilities add pressure on Trump ahead of the November midterm elections, as he faces questions on how and when the conflict might conclude. The remarks follow recent significant U.S. strikes against Iranian military targets after Iranian attacks on American forces. These strikes included hitting Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ command centers, missile and drone facilities, and maritime capabilities.

An earlier agreement in June aimed to end the conflict and resume commercial activities in the Strait of Hormuz. However, following Iran’s attacks on vessels there, hostilities resumed. Efforts by countries like Oman, Qatar, Pakistan, and Egypt to revive the agreement faced challenges, particularly due to disputes over the waterway, sanctions, and Iran’s nuclear program.
