On social media, Trump disclosed that Iran and other Middle Eastern nations urged the U.S. to postpone any military action against Iran, as the terms of a potential agreement were under discussion.
Reports earlier indicated that the U.S. and Israel were preparing to strike Iran’s energy infrastructure over the weekend. In a Saturday night post on the Truth social platform, Trump stated that the U.S. was “locked and loaded and ready” to confront Iran. However, in light of requests from Tehran and others, the U.S. had agreed to hold off on the attack, contingent on swiftly finalizing a deal. Israel was also committed to this agreement.
Trump outlined that the agreement “would involve the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” and a termination of Iran’s nuclear program. Iran insists its nuclear endeavors are solely for peaceful purposes, but it has not yet officially reacted to Trump’s assertion.
Mehr, a semi-official Iranian news agency, dismissed Trump’s statement as “simply a new lie,” citing unnamed Iranian military sources. This development marks the most recent in a series of rapid changes since the U.S. and Israel initiated hostilities against Iran in February.
