Ms. Rachel Leads Children’s Sing-Along at ICE Facility
In Newark, New Jersey, Ms. Rachel, known for her children’s content on YouTube, led sing-along sessions at Delaney Hall, an ICE detention center. Her presence raised questions regarding political activism against such facilities. At the same time, hosts on ‘Fox & Friends’ discussed protests by far-left activists at similar facilities, noting nearly 100 arrests.
Political Advocacy Through Social Media
Popular YouTube educator Ms. Rachel, real name Rachel Accurso, endorsed a dozen progressive Democratic candidates using her platform with over 5 million followers. Notable endorsements included former Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri and Michigan Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed. Accurso shared her belief in medical care for all children and opposition to billion-dollar wealth through an Instagram post.
Her endorsements span contests in eight states and include candidates like Vermont Rep. Becca Balint, Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, and Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon.
Support for Progressive Policies
Accurso’s endorsement of Cori Bush aligns with Bush’s platform advocating for the abolition of ICE and Medicare for All. Bush noted her re-endorsement by the Democratic Socialists of America in a social media post.
Abdul El-Sayed, another candidate supported by Ms. Rachel, denied the socialist label despite endorsements from Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He advocates for Medicare for All, taxing billionaires, and banning corporate money in politics.
A federal filing showed a $3,000 payment from Accurso to El-Sayed’s campaign, though it’s unclear if it was a contribution or a loan.
Accurso’s Stance on Political Conduct
Accurso expressed her views against politicians attacking each other and criticized the influence of large groups using significant funds to counter candidates. Her financial support to El-Sayed drew criticism from the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
In her political engagement, Accurso addressed the case of Nolan Wells’ death, suggesting racial factors in law enforcement’s actions through a viral social media post.
Activism Beyond Social Media
Beyond digital platforms, Accurso visited Delaney Hall and Washington to advocate against family detention and separation. Her motivation stems from a deep care for children and families, as she expressed in her endorsements.
Ms. Rachel, with over 20 million YouTube subscribers, continues her political involvement and advocacy, prompting discussions across media outlets.
