1 week ago 0

On Friday, a tragic event unfolded at a high school in Nonthaburi, Thailand, where a student opened fire, resulting in the deaths of three teachers and three students. Several others were wounded during the incident. This occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, located northwest of Bangkok, as confirmed by Royal Thai Police spokesperson Trairong Piwpan to The Associated Press.

Channel 3 reported that the shooter was in serious condition while being hospitalized. A total of 15 people were injured, with two in critical condition. Local media, as reported by AFP, indicated that the shooter was also a student at the school and was deceased. Conflicting stories emerged regarding the shooter’s death, with some stating police officers shot and killed him, while others suggested he died by suicide.

In a concerning development, police discovered a man and a woman dead at the shooter’s home. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack. It is believed that the gun used was taken from a family member of the student.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed his condolences and directed officials to provide support to the victims. Scenes captured about an hour post-shooting showed a community in shock, with people comforting each other and emergency responders on-site.

Witnesses described the fear among students, who took cover in a classroom after hearing gunfire from another building. Police later facilitated their safe evacuation.

This incident follows other recent school shootings in Thailand. Earlier in the year, a 17-year-old staged a similar attack at a public high school in the south, involving a short hostage situation and resulting in one death and two injuries. In a separate occurrence in 2023, a 14-year-old was charged for a shooting at a major shopping mall in Bangkok.
