RNC Spokesperson Warns of Political Consequences from Socialist Influence

Republican National Committee (RNC) spokesperson Natalie Baldassarre issued a warning regarding socialist influence within the Democratic Party. She stated Sunday that socialists are pushing Democrats towards political disaster. The concern arises after Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) co-chair Megan Romer hesitated to provide specifics on taxing millionaires during an interview on ‘The New Yorker Radio Hour.’

“The Democrat Party is being driven off a cliff by socialists who are driving blindfolded while arguing about the view,” Baldassarre said. “Unless Democrats hit the brakes, every candidate on the ballot will have to answer for socialists’ outrageous beliefs that will bankrupt our country and strip every American of safety, sanity, and freedom,” she added.

Romer endorsed substantial taxes on wealthy individuals but focused her criticism on billionaires and the exploitation of workers she believes they have engaged in. Despite urging from New Yorker editor David Remnick, Romer did not specify a tax rate or threshold when asked about taxing millionaires.

During the discussion, Romer acknowledged, “I think most billionaires got their wealth because they exploited the working class in some very significant way usually.” Romer emphasized the need to explore whether people are being exploited rather than setting arbitrary limits on wealth ownership.

Remnick pressed Romer for more details about the proposed tax policy, but she did not offer a clear plan. Instead, she suggested that the group would develop the policy based on spending priorities and necessary revenue. “So, yeah, we need to look at what we need to pay for in the interim, what sort of tax base we need for that to happen, and build from there,” Romer explained.

The DSA’s official 2026 program also does not specify a tax rate or define which individuals and companies would be impacted by proposed wealth taxes. Their program states the intent to “enact aggressive wealth taxes on the richest individuals and corporations to spend on public goods and infrastructure.”

The RNC’s warning follows significant Democratic primary victories by DSA-backed candidates. Victories include Melat Kiros defeating Rep. Diana DeGette in Colorado and Darializa Avila Chevalier ousting Rep. Adriano Espaillat. Claire Valdez won the nomination for an open New York seat, while progressive Abdul El-Sayed narrowly defeated Rep. Haley Stevens in Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary.

Romer clarified that El-Sayed is not a DSA candidate, noting his identification as a capitalist.

The centrist Democratic organization Third Way announced a $15 million effort through 2028 to counter DSA’s influence, including opposition research and outreach. Third Way co-founder Matt Bennett expressed concerns about DSA’s impact on Democrats. “We believe the DSA poses a serious threat to Democrats. Their ideas are dangerous and their politics are toxic. If we are to beat MAGA Republicans, we cannot allow our party to be defined by radicals,” Bennett said.

Romer brushed off Third Way’s planned campaign, expressing commitment to her movement in previous statements to Fox News Digital. “$15 million to tell working-class people that a better world isn’t possible? We believe in people power, and our vision for a better future is winning. We will keep building our movement, and they will waste their money,” Romer said.

Fox News reached out to Romer, the Democratic National Committee, and the DSA for comments but did not immediately receive a reply.
