In Alabama, four out of the seven congressional districts are conducting primary elections. These primaries are happening under a newly adjusted map that leans towards the Republican Party.
The changes came after Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, a Republican, postponed the primaries in these districts. This followed a decision by the Supreme Court in April that weakened the Voting Rights Act, enabling Republicans to remove one of the two districts where Black voters were the majority.
In these newly defined districts, President Donald Trump has given his support to former congressman Jerry Carl and Alabama state representative Rhett Marques. Both are candidates in the reshaped districts seeking to secure positions within the U.S. House of Representatives.
Rhett Marques, running for the U.S. 2nd Congressional District, had recently attended a meet-the-candidates event in Dothan, Alabama, showcasing the ongoing engagement with local voters amid these politically shifted boundaries.
