Postponed Primaries Held in Alabama Congressional Districts

9 hours ago 0

The American flag waves atop the U.S. Capitol in Washington, marking the date of September 22, 2025. Alabamans in selected congressional districts make their way to the polls on a Tuesday to participate in a series of postponed primary elections.

Republican Governor Kay Ivey announced special primaries in the 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 7th Congressional Districts. This decision followed a significant Supreme Court ruling that weakened a part of the Voting Rights Act, allowing the state to implement a previously blocked House map favoring the Republican Party.

In contrast, voters in Alabama’s remaining three House districts had already cast their votes in May. The polls for these special primaries close at 7 p.m. EDT.
