High-Stakes Wisconsin Primary Examines Socialist Influence Amid Democratic Tensions

12 hours ago 0

The Wisconsin Democratic primary is under scrutiny as establishment candidates face off against Francesca Hong, who has garnered support from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and host Harris Faulkner dissect Hong’s progressive platform and controversial online statements, including her remarks advocating for the cancellation of Thanksgiving.

A recent revelation from Fox News Digital disclosed Hong’s perspective on America, portraying it as ‘an abundance of suffering.’ In a post dated January 20, 2022, Hong expressed a desire to transform the country into a ‘wealth of opportunity’ through equal rights and representation for Black and Brown communities, criticizing those she termed ‘racist obstructionists.’

“Cancel Thanksgiving. Should have done this in 1621,” Hong stated in a deleted social media post, addressing colonialism’s legacy and its impact on indigenous populations. She further remarked on the necessity of re-evaluating national traditions in light of historical events.

Hong’s position as a gubernatorial candidate has been marked by scrutiny over her critical statements about America, its institutions, and ideals. Despite this, she maintains her campaign for the Democratic nomination, underscoring the surge of socialist candidates entering the political fray this election year.

In a 2019 post, Hong expressed discomfort in predominantly White spaces, noting her heightened anxiety in such environments. Following the non-prosecution of the officers involved in Jacob Blake’s shooting in 2020, Hong called for police abolition, labeling reforms as inadequate.

Her stance on policing has remained unabated, despite criticism from various quarters. A spokesperson reiterated her aspirational goal of dismantling police systems, comparing it to objectives like eradicating diseases or poverty. The role of the governor in police funding remains limited, a fact acknowledged by Hong herself.

Despite the controversy surrounding her social media presence, Hong has minimized its impact, emphasizing her focus on voter concerns. Her background as a potential sports journalist in college provided insights into the nature of public expression, both positive and negative.

The primary election unfolding Tuesday will be pivotal in determining the balance between socialist momentum and establishment Democrat strategies in Wisconsin.
