Wisconsin Democratic Chair Addresses Thanksgiving Controversy

On Tuesday, Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Devin Remiker addressed questions about Thanksgiving. The discussion followed after Francesca Hong, a Democratic socialist and state gubernatorial candidate, changed her previous stance on canceling the holiday.

CNN host John Berman inquired about Remiker’s personal take on Thanksgiving. Remiker responded, “I love Thanksgiving. I even host a Friendsgiving every year, so I basically celebrate twice.” He humorously added, “I think Tom Tiffany will struggle this Thanksgiving after losing the governor’s race, as the sweet potatoes might remind him of a certain spray tan.”

Berman highlighted Hong’s controversial position. He asked Remiker about the potential challenges this presents, referencing Hong’s reversal from her previous statement against Thanksgiving.

Controversy Stirs in Wisconsin Gubernatorial Race

The Wisconsin Democratic Chair noted that the controversy allows his party to highlight Representative Tom Tiffany’s potential impact on the holiday’s cost. “It’s a great opportunity to discuss how Tom Tiffany might make Thanksgiving more expensive for Wisconsinites,” Remiker stated. He pointed to increased grocery and gas costs as potential issues.

Remiker expressed his eagerness to emphasize these points. Berman acknowledged Remiker’s effort in addressing the topic.

Political Dynamics in the Race

In addition to Hong, six other Democrats, including Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, are in the gubernatorial primary. Tiffany competes against Andy Manske in the Republican primary.

A spokesperson from Tiffany’s campaign criticized the Wisconsin Democrats’ support for a candidate they labeled socialist. They accused Hong of wanting to abolish the police, prisons, cancel Thanksgiving, and increase state taxes. “While they defend higher taxes and fewer jobs, Tom Tiffany focuses on affordability, safety, and opportunities,” the spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

Hong recently stated Thanksgiving as her favorite holiday, reversing her 2020 opinion. In a Politico interview, she said, “My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. I don’t want to cancel it. I love it.” Hong’s earlier deleted post compared the holiday to the deadly pandemic, proposing Thanksgiving cancellation in 1621.
