Adam Copeland and Christian Cage once again claimed tag team gold after a 25-year gap. On Sunday, they concluded a fierce bout by defeating Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler at AEW’s Double or Nothing, securing the AEW Tag Team Championship.
The match was intense, featuring the use of ladders, various tools, and even a flaming table. Each wrestler endured severe punishment. Cage’s arm was injured numerous times, Wheeler nearly lost a piece of his nose, and each fighter faced barbed wire wounds. No one was quick to concede defeat.
Stokely Hathaway, representing FTR, made his presence felt during the match. However, Beth Copeland, known to wrestling fans as Beth Phoenix, appeared unexpectedly to balance the scales. Although her impact was short-lived, it set the stage for a dramatic showdown.
Harwood ignited a table with lighter fluid, preparing for Wheeler to attack Beth Copeland. Yet, Hathaway ended up being speared through the fiery table instead. With the chaos escalating, Copeland and Cage focused on incapacitating Harwood with innovative submission moves.
Beth Copeland contributed a spiked bat to her husband, further pressuring Harwood, who ultimately uttered, “I quit,” handing the titles to Copeland and Cage.
Both wrestlers are renowned for their seven-time championship reign in WWE’s tag team division. This victory marks the first significant win for them in AEW, recapturing their past success. Their last tag team championship was at WrestleMania X-7 in April 2001, where they emerged victorious in a tables, ladders, and chairs match but quickly lost the belts to Kane and The Undertaker.
The event was a significant moment for fans, highlighting that even after many years, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage still possess the skill and determination to dominate the wrestling tag team scene.
