47 minutes ago 0

Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff leads by 7 points against Republican Representative Mike Collins in the recent Georgia Senate poll. Georgia, crucial for Democrats, was won by President Donald Trump in 2024 but supported President Joe Biden in 2020, indicating its purple status.

InsiderAdvantage released a poll showing 50% of surveyed voters support Ossoff, with 43% backing Collins. Seven percent are undecided. Conducted from August 16 to August 17, the poll surveyed 800 likely voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.46 percentage points. James Magazine, a statewide political publication in Georgia, reported the poll findings.

Georgia is a battleground state, and Senator Ossoff is already facing millions in Republican spending against him. The campaign continues to build momentum and work to earn every vote.

Collins’ campaign manager, Josh Siegel, claims Collins has narrowed the gap significantly in six weeks despite lesser spending, criticizing Ossoff’s voting record.

Sabato Crystal Ball rates the race as “Likely Democrat,” while Cook Political Report and Fox News Senate Forecast rate it as “Lean Democrat.”

AARP poll shows Bottoms with a 2-point lead, while Wick indicates a near tie, favoring Republicans slightly.

Ossoff vs. Trump

Ossoff criticized Trump for prioritizing personal interests over presidential duties, specifically mentioning his aide Natalie Harp. Ossoff alleges the President neglects essential duties and focuses on leisure, accusing him of poor leadership during the Iranian conflict and emphasizing military actions.

White House communications director Steven Cheung countered Ossoff’s remarks on social media.

Ossoff’s Prospects for 2028

Ossoff’s potential candidacy for the 2028 Democratic presidential primary is speculative. Despite being frequently mentioned due to his popularity in Georgia, Ossoff denies interest in a presidential run, emphasizing current responsibilities.

Early polls are used to gauge recognition and viability among voters and donors, with notable candidate announcements likely after midterms.

Focaldata and Financial Times poll show Kamala Harris leading the 2028 Democratic field, followed by Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Ossoff receives 5% support.

Georgia’s Importance for Democrats

Democrats face challenges as retaining Georgia is crucial for controlling the Senate, where Republicans hold a 53-47 majority. Democrats aim to defend their seats and gain four more for Senate control.

Alongside Georgia, Democrats are focused on Michigan, where tight races unfold. Maine and North Carolina offer potential flips, with competitive races in Alaska, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas.
