Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd will undergo season-ending knee surgery after missing the past five games due to knee soreness. The team announced that Fudd will have arthroscopic surgery on her right knee next week in Connecticut. Fudd played college basketball at UConn, where she was a standout player before being selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Wings.
Fudd started the season coming off the bench for the first six games. Her performance in the sixth game, where she scored 24 points, earned her a spot as a full-time starter. In June, she achieved a season-high 26 points during a victory over Seattle.
Throughout this season, Fudd averaged 13.1 points over 30 games. Despite the knee issue, she participated in warmups before a home game against Golden State on August 7 but sat out as a precaution.
Fudd and her former UConn teammate Paige Bueckers, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, shared success at UConn by winning the 2025 national championship. Bueckers was the top pick the year before Fudd.
The Wings are currently managing a 3-8 record since their longest winning streak since the franchise’s relocation to Texas a decade ago. Despite the challenges, Dallas is in a strong position to secure a playoff spot for the first time since 2023. They are scheduled to face off against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever at the Dallas Mavericks’ venue on Thursday night.
