First lady Melania Trump has revealed a significant $2 million scholarship program under her Fostering the Future initiative. This is part of a new strategic alliance with Fox Corporation and IndyCar, which aims to enhance academic opportunities for individuals transitioning from foster care.
Fox Corporation and IndyCar are both contributing to the initiative, offering $1 million each. These funds will establish scholarships at Indiana University and Purdue University, targeted specifically at young people with experience in the foster care system.
The announcement was made at the White House, coinciding with the upcoming Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., an event scheduled for the weekend. The strategic alliance highlights a synergy between education and sports.
“The greatest achievement America can make is not in technology, infrastructure, or capital markets. It’s our children,” Melania Trump stated at the event.
President Donald Trump and the first lady were accompanied by several notable figures, including FOX Sports CEO Eric Shanks, Penske Corporation chairman Roger Penske, IndyCar president Doug Boles, Indiana University president Dr. Pamela Whitten, Purdue University vice provost Cherise Hall, several IndyCar Series drivers, and youth with foster care backgrounds.
Eric Shanks, an Indiana native and Indiana University alumnus, presented Melania Trump with a ceremonial check. He emphasized Fox Corporation’s commitment to investing in America’s future by partnering with the first lady’s initiative to provide scholarships.
Other attendees included Fox Sports IndyCar broadcast team members Jamie Little, Will Buxton, James Hinchcliffe, and Kevin Lee. A vehicle featuring “Be Best” and Fostering the Future logos was also showcased.
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix is the first auto race on the National Mall, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. The race will be broadcast live on FS1 and FS2 on Saturday and on FOX on Sunday, with streaming available on FOX One. Each car in the race will display decals supporting foster youths.
Fostering the Future, established by Melania Trump in 2021, seeks to provide college access, housing support, and resources for youth transitioning out of foster care. Nationally, only a small percentage of former foster youth complete college. Melania Trump believes this funding will help close this critical gap.
