Nearly three months have passed since the major trade, yet Myles Garrett remains unseen in a Los Angeles Rams uniform. He has missed the Rams’ first two preseason games and has been absent from 12 practices due to knee swelling and soreness. Initially, this was not a concern early in camp, but as Week 1 draws near, concerns have emerged.
Rams head coach Sean McVay played down the seriousness of Garrett’s absence recently, explaining it as a precaution. McVay stated, “The goal is, what can we do to be able to get him ready to roll for Australia?”
The Rams kick off their regular season against the 49ers in Melbourne, Australia, on Thursday, Sept. 10. This game marks the first-ever NFL match played in Australia and features two potential Super Bowl contenders. McVay emphasized the importance of having Garrett prepared for the regular season opener, rather than risking him in the preseason.
With reigning MVP Matthew Stafford, elite receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, and All-Pro running back Kyren Williams, the Rams were already strong contenders entering 2026, even before Garrett’s arrival. Now, with the addition of the two-time Defensive Player of the Year, they further bolster their powerful front seven, including players like Kobie Turner, Byron Young, and Braden Fiske.
If Garrett’s injury proves minor, the Rams will be an intimidating force for any team this season. The anticipation grows as fans ponder whether franchise icon Aaron Donald might also return.
