The modern sculpture known as “Blue,” recently removed from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, has found a new home. Acquired for over $2 million, the piece has been purchased by David Rubenstein, a noted philanthropist. Rubenstein, previously the chairman of the Kennedy Center until President Donald Trump removed him from the position in 2025, plans to feature the sculpture in the Sculpture Garden of the National Gallery of Art.
The intended display location, the National Gallery of Art, benefits from Rubenstein’s involvement as he currently serves as chairman of its board of trustees. The acquisition has drawn public interest, with the first report emerging from the New York Times.
