The White House under President Donald Trump has taken down a Tetris-themed online arcade game due to a copyright challenge from The Tetris Company. The administration introduced the new online arcade last week, featuring games with formats echoing classic styles but linked to Trump’s policy themes. Among these was ‘Build the Wall,’ a game bearing a resemblance to the well-known block-stacking Tetris game.
The Tetris Company informed Newsweek on Monday that they were not affiliated with the development of ‘Build the Wall’ and had not authorized the use of the Tetris brand or intellectual property for the game. Their statement emphasized the iconic nature of Tetris, highlighting its history of connecting people through strategic play and joyful experiences. They are presently investigating the issue.
The company also conveyed their stance via an Instagram post, reiterating their lack of involvement in creating ‘Build the Wall’ and stressing the importance they place on protecting against copyright infringement.
As of Wednesday morning, ‘Build the Wall’ is no longer accessible in the White House Arcade section. Updates on this situation are expected as it develops.
