The Dallas Cowboys secured a win against the Houston Texans with a score of 34-30, rebounding from their recent close loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Dak Prescott, the Cowboys’ quarterback, played a pivotal role in this victory.
Prescott showcased his skill by completing 32 out of 45 passes, accumulating 335 yards. Among these, he connected impressively with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb for 189 yards and a touchdown. This win allowed Prescott to match Roger Staubach, a Cowboys legend, for the second-most career wins in franchise history with 85. Staubach achieved this milestone years ago, later leading the team to two Super Bowl wins and earning a place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Prescott aspires to reach similar heights.
Currently, Troy Aikman holds the top record in franchise wins. Aikman secured 94 victories and claimed three Super Bowl titles during his tenure, earning his own spot in the Hall of Fame. Prescott needs to secure nine more wins to tie with Aikman and ten to surpass his record.
The Cowboys stand at 2-2 this season, giving Prescott a potential chance to set a new record if the team performs well. The upcoming schedule looks demanding, with a game against the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 8. The Buccaneers will feature rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels as Baker Mayfield recovers from a thumb injury.
Prescott spoke with CBS’s Pam Oliver post-game, stating, “We gotta get back tomorrow at it. It’s gonna be a quick turnaround. Use this momentum, use what we did in the second half, and just keep going.” Following the Buccaneers, the Cowboys will face road challenges against Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles. They will return home to host the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 1. Currently, the Packers and Eagles both hold 2-2 records, while the Cardinals are 1-3.
If Prescott reaches 11 wins this season, he will tie for the all-time wins record. Achieving 12 wins would make him the all-time leader. Should he not secure the record this season, a successful 2027 NFL season could see him achieve this milestone.
