During the weekend, Pierre Damas Bel’s family held his funeral. Bel was a 20-year-old student from Haiti. His legal immigration status was revoked in July. This action followed the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Trump administration to terminate temporary protections for many Haitians.
Sadly, Bel took his own life a month after immigration officials mandated him to wear an ankle monitor. This tragic event underscores the distress experienced by those facing uncertain immigration futures.
