Jeremiah Smith Shines Amid Critics in Ohio State’s Victory Over Iowa

2 hours ago 0

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith continues to impress this season, proving critics wrong with each game he plays. In a remarkable performance, Smith recorded 11 receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns in Ohio State’s 31-14 win over Iowa last Saturday. This marks his second consecutive game with over 200 receiving yards and his third with at least two touchdowns this season.

Formerly skeptical, David Pollack, a college football analyst and former Georgia defensive end, has changed his opinion of the 6-foot-4 junior receiver. Following Smith’s outstanding display, Pollack publicly admitted his previous doubts were misplaced.

“Jeremiah Smith, I apologize. I was wrong; you were right. Everyone else is smart; I’m stupid. He’s the best player in college football. It’s very clear,” Pollack declared.

Pollack recognized Smith as Ohio State’s career leader in receptions, receiving touchdowns, and receiving yards. Reflecting on his prior skepticism, Pollack described Smith as a versatile player, capable of executing various plays on the field. He also acknowledged his initial reluctance to buy into continuous praise but now fully supports it.

“It’s warranted. He’s that good. Jeremiah Smith, I apologize,” Pollack reiterated.

This season, Smith leads the nation with 44 receptions and 823 receiving yards. His nine touchdowns tie him with Oregon State’s Jesse Legree, indicating potential for further success as the season progresses.

Smith’s outstanding performance positions him as a leading contender for the Heisman Trophy. His contributions have been pivotal in Ohio State’s 4-1 record, keeping them in the contender circle for the national championship.

The Buckeyes will next face reigning national champion Indiana on Saturday, Oct. 17, giving Smith a chance to further enhance his impressive statistics.
