Olivia Rodrigo’s Political Stand at Daisy Chain Fields Music Festival

2 hours ago 0

On May 8, 2026, Olivia Rodrigo performed at Spotify Billions Club Live in Barcelona. During this period, she was also deeply involved in organizing her women-focused music festival, Daisy Chain Fields. This event, held in Irvine, California, featured a lineup of female artists like Chappell Roan, Sarah McLachlan, and Stevie Nicks.

Rodrigo’s festival was explicitly political. She aimed to support nonprofit groups that advocate for women’s rights. Recipients of proceeds included Planned Parenthood, the Center for Reproductive Rights, Baby2Baby, and the Black Mamas Matter Alliance. The event successfully raised $20 million.

She told The Hollywood Reporter that Daisy Chain Fields was both political and joyful. Rodrigo hoped to inspire young people who might feel disappointed with current leadership. Her message was clear: participation was optional, and those disagreeing with her ideals need not attend.

The festival drew inspiration from Lilith Fair, a 1990s music festival started by Sarah McLachlan, promoting female representation in music. Rodrigo believed that women had more rights back then compared to the present day, as she mentioned in her remarks at the event.

The festival occurred amidst broader political actions by Rodrigo. She had criticized the Department of Homeland Security for using her music to promote deportations and had spoken against ICE practices.

Her open embrace of political themes in her performances brought mixed reactions. While some praised her honesty and alignment with social causes, others, including commentators like Ben Ferguson and Christian Toto, criticized her approach. They argued she risked alienating fans by making her shows central to political discourse.

Political strategist Kaivan Shroff supported Rodrigo, praising her candidness and integration of politics into her brand. He highlighted that Rodrigo’s approach might filter the audience but praised her transparency about the festival’s political nature.

Overall, Daisy Chain Fields was a testament to Rodrigo’s commitment to both music and political advocacy, underscoring the intersection of art and social issues in contemporary culture.
