Philadelphia Eagles Release QB Andy Dalton After Interception

2 hours ago 0

The Philadelphia Eagles have released quarterback Andy Dalton following a brief but costly appearance in a game against the Chicago Bears. Dalton, 38, entered the game after Jalen Hurts left due to an injury. At that point, the Eagles were trailing 7-0 in the second quarter with a scoring opportunity at third-and-goal from the Bears’ 2-yard line.

Dalton, a seasoned quarterback with three Pro Bowls to his name, took the snap from the shotgun formation. However, rookie safety Dillon Thieneman intercepted his pass, ending the Eagles’ chance to score. After the interception, the Eagles decided to promote Tanner McKee to the backup quarterback position, relegating Dalton to the third spot on the depth chart. Soon after, the team decided to release him.

Dalton’s NFL career has seen him play for six different teams. He started his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he spent nine years as the starting quarterback. Following his tenure with the Bengals, Dalton served as a backup for several teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Bears, the New Orleans Saints, the Carolina Panthers, and most recently, the Eagles. Of all these teams, the Eagles were the only one for which Dalton did not start a game.

Dalton’s career statistics showcase his extensive experience in the league. He has participated in 180 games, starting 169 of them. He maintains a near-even win-loss record of 84-83-2, with a 62.6% pass completion rate. Additionally, he has thrown for 39,793 yards, recording 254 touchdowns against 152 interceptions.

Looking ahead, the Eagles stand at a 2-2 record. They are set to face the Jacksonville Jaguars, who hold a 3-1 record, in London. The game is scheduled for Sunday at 9:30 a.m. ET.
