Fort Hood Survivor Questions Execution Livestream of Mass Shooter

2 hours ago 0

A survivor of the Fort Hood massacre of 2009, Julia Wilson, expresses her wish for the shooter, Nidal Hasan, to be executed, and raises concerns over the planned livestream of his death. Hasan is set to face execution by firing squad on December 3, 2026, a decision made public by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth earlier this month. Despite being a victim, Wilson struggles with the decision to broadcast the execution.

Hasan, an Army psychiatrist at the time, killed 13 people and wounded 32 others at a soldier readiness center on the Texas Army post on November 5, 2009. He was sentenced to death by military court-martial on August 28, 2013. On October 2, President Trump approved the death sentence, with Hegseth announcing the method of execution. Wilson wants to witness Hasan’s execution to confront him, but questions the necessity of publicizing the event.

Why would people want to see that?

Wilson fears the livestream could expose children to unnecessary violence and echoes concerns from politicians like Senator Thom Tillis, who compares the decision to practices in oppressive regimes. Vice President J.D. Vance is also uncertain about livestreaming and expressed personal reluctance to view it.

The survivor recalls the chaos of that tragic day, describing hearing gunfire and experiencing mixed emotions as she navigated the scene. Hasan’s actions and subsequent classification of the incident as workplace violence instead of domestic terrorism remain points of contention for Wilson and others affected. They urge a reclassification to acknowledge the true nature of the attack.

Wilson has communicated with Trump, advocating for this change to facilitate healing for survivors and families of the victims. The need for justice and recognition of the incident’s severity continues to drive efforts toward reclassification.
