A tragic event occurred at Six Flags Over Georgia, resulting in one fatality and several injuries on Monday. The Cobb County Police Department reported that the incident took place shortly before 4 p.m.
“Several people were reported injured, and one person has died,” stated the police department in their official communication. Although the specific roller coaster involved was not identified, CBS News Atlanta footage showed that the Goliath ride had ceased operation. Guests were observed evacuating from the ride’s largest hill using an emergency stairway.
Information regarding the incident remains limited, and the identity of the deceased guest has not been revealed. In response, a Six Flags spokesperson expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected,” the spokesperson stated. “The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation.”
Following the incident, riders were evacuated from the Goliath. CBS News Atlanta captured the scene, while Mableton Mayor Michael Owens mentioned that the city’s public safety director is coordinating efforts with Cobb County police and the park.
The Goliath, which began operations in 2006, features a top height of 200 feet and plunges 170 feet at speeds reaching 70 miles per hour, making it the park’s tallest attraction. Recently, Six Flags announced the permanent closure of its X2 roller coaster at Magic Mountain in California. This decision follows numerous lawsuits alleging over 100 riders suffered brain injuries from the ride.
