Axiom REACH Foundation Expands Cancer Awareness Initiatives in Bangladesh

2 hours ago 0

The Axiom REACH Foundation, a prominent U.S. cancer foundation, is extending its philanthropic efforts to Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka. The organization is exporting its fundraising event from Princeton, New Jersey, known as the ‘7.5K to Fight Cancer,’ set to take place on January 8, 2027, at the scenic Lake Hatirjheel. Aiming to address the increasing cancer rates in Bangladesh, the event seeks support from celebrities and international participants, attracting over 1,000 runners to cover the 7.5 km loop. The foundation plans to engage around 30 million people with the campaign and double its financial contributions in Bangladesh.

The event anticipates virtual engagement from over 25 countries. Axiom REACH, backed by Axiom Health Strategies, engages in various charitable activities combating cancer in Bangladesh, including the Children’s Cancer Fund and Project 1767. The latter initiative targets breast cancer by providing free screenings.

Since 2023, the Children’s Cancer Fund has assisted 68 children undergoing cancer treatment across 10 hospitals nationwide. Of these, 21 children have achieved remission. Mohammad Ehsan, chief of staff at Axiom Health Strategies, expressed pride in their achievements over this short period and announced plans for further expansion.

Research indicates cancer rates are rising in Bangladesh, with one study in the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention projecting a potential doubling of rates by 2050. The World Health Organization’s International Agency predicts global cancer instances could escalate by 67 percent, reaching 34.4 million by 2050. The issue is severe in less affluent countries, where inadequate detection and treatment increase mortality rates.

Bangladeshi singer Dilshad Nahar Kona has joined forces with Axiom REACH, advocating for awareness and support. Kona emphasized the importance of providing children with opportunities to play and dream, encouraging public participation in the Dhaka event.

Ehsan highlighted Sumaya Akter Sinthia’s story as a testament to the program’s success. Sinthia, who battled a cancerous neck growth at 14, is now in remission at 17 and actively supports other children through volunteering. Her recovery has empowered her to think positively about her future and offer hope to others.

Ehsan anticipates the event will raise over $60,000, thereby doubling the previous year’s funding for cancer initiatives in Bangladesh. He plans to expand this figure significantly in the years to come.

Founded in 2019, Axiom REACH focuses on aiding cancer patients in New Jersey and offers mobile breast cancer screenings and support for oncology students from underrepresented communities. Ehsan aims to augment the foundation’s annual budget to $300,000 next year and exceed $500,000 by 2030.

‘Once you’re involved, you witness the impact,’ Ehsan remarked, underscoring the importance of the foundation’s work and its life-changing potential for affected individuals.
