Controversy Surrounds Shane Gillis’ SNL Monologue

Dan Levy, known for his role in “Schitt’s Creek,” criticized comedian Shane Gillis for comments made during a “Saturday Night Live” monologue. Levy accused Gillis of misogyny and suggested that such attitudes contribute to a culture where women face sexual assault.

Levy, who hosted “SNL” in 2021, shared his thoughts in an Instagram video, urging other men to speak out. “I’m speechless that something like this can exist on live national television,” he said. Levy believes silence from men creates conditions where discussions around sexual assault are minimized.

During his third hosting stint, Gillis joked about women’s gym attire, sparking backlash. He commented on women dressing provocatively, prompting Levy’s public response. Levy rejected the notion that women’s clothing choices justified Gillis’ remarks. He emphasized, “Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists.” Levy also noted seeing more revealing male attire at gyms than women’s.

Lisa Cusack, president of the Don’t L.A. My Burbank PAC, provided a counterpoint in a statement to Fox News Digital. She argued that simply noticing revealing attire does not constitute misogyny. “In our social media world, there’s a glut of sexualized images women feel they have to compete with,” Cusack said. She suggested that dressing provocatively can lead to responses focused on objectification.

Levy stressed the impact of media on perceptions of women, urging men to challenge objectification. “This is not a women’s issue, this is an everybody issue,” Levy insisted. He highlighted that objectifying women in media influences how they are treated socially.

Cusack offered another viewpoint, suggesting that modern culture has drifted away from mystery and restraint. “Glamour is controlling perception with a little bit of mystery,” she said, lamenting the loss of subtlety.

Fox News Digital reached out to NBC for comments, but Gillis’ team declined to respond.
