Miami Triumphs Over Florida State in Double Overtime Thriller

2 hours ago 0

The Miami Hurricanes managed to secure a precarious victory over the Florida State Seminoles, triumphing 43-35 in a game that stretched into double overtime. Miami, maintaining their undefeated record, struggled to hold off Florida State’s relentless efforts. The Hurricanes relied heavily on quarterback Darian Mensah, who delivered an impressive performance with 326 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Mensah’s crucial final touchdown, a 3-yard pass to Malachi Toney during the second overtime, highlighted the dramatic victory. Throughout the game, Toney was an instrumental figure, amassing 154 receiving yards and even executing a 2-point conversion pass to Cooper Barkate.

Ashton Daniels, leading the Seminoles, put on a commendable show with 298 passing yards and four touchdowns. Florida State’s persistence came through with Duce Robinson’s memorable late-game performances, which included a 75-yard touchdown that leveled the score in the final minutes of regulation, and a 20-yard touchdown to start the first overtime.

Defensive efforts by Miami proved pivotal as well, with Bryce Fitzgerald intercepting a pass on Florida State’s final play, securing Miami’s victory. This win adds to Florida State’s dismal record away from Tallahassee, having faced 14 consecutive losses on the road since the 2023 Orange Bowl against Georgia.

Florida State’s head coach Mike Norvell faces growing pressure due to the team’s ongoing struggles over recent years. With their latest defeat, their record against ranked teams in true road games remains winless since 2017, adding to the speculation around Norvell’s future with the team.
