Separate Incident in New Jersey Involving Federal Officers
In an unrelated event in New Jersey, federal prosecutors report an attack on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. Reinieri De Jesus Licona Amador, a 27-year-old Honduran national, stands accused of assaulting ICE officers with a hammer during a traffic stop in Gibbsboro. U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer emphasized the serious nature of this assault, stressing that federal officers risk their safety enforcing the law.
“When an individual responds to a traffic stop by attacking an officer with a hammer, that conduct threatens not only the officer’s safety but the rule of law itself,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer.
Details of the New Jersey Assault
According to federal complaints, the altercation occurred during a targeted ICE operation. Officers identified Licona Amador’s truck through a license plate check, which revealed his unlawful status in the United States. Following a stop attempt, Licona Amador resisted arrest, leading to a confrontation where he allegedly wielded a hammer against officers.
Despite orders to stop, Licona Amador moved unpredictably, eventually stepping onto his truck’s passenger-side door while brandishing the hammer. Officers resorted to using oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray, successfully subduing and arresting him without injury.
Potential Legal Consequences
Licona Amador faces severe penalties if convicted, including up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for assaulting federal officers with a dangerous weapon.
