Robert O’Neill, the U.S. Navy SEAL known for killing Osama bin Laden, has commented on controversial social media posts by Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner. These posts have come under scrutiny recently. O’Neill criticized Platner’s comments about a soldier, calling them “barbaric.” O’Neill stated that a soldier’s commitment should transcend politics and focused on the importance of camaraderie in combat.
Platner has cited his struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in defense of his divisive social media activities. O’Neill dismissed this explanation, labeling Platner’s actions as “vile hatred.” He suggested that PTSD should not result in wishing harm on fellow soldiers. O’Neill also recommended treatment options for PTSD, such as Ibogaine therapy.
Platner has further faced backlash over comments regarding “American Sniper” Chris Kyle, accusing him of inflating his achievements by killing civilians. O’Neill attributed these statements to jealousy over Kyle’s fame. He noted that such professional jealousy among veterans is uncommon.
As controversy around Platner grows, many Democratic representatives in Congress have avoided addressing the issues. O’Neill criticized this silence, suggesting that political motivations drive the decision to ignore Platner’s actions. He argued that obtaining a seat in Congress seems to be the priority over addressing these matters.
While some defend Platner’s comments as “locker room talk,” O’Neill believes the posts demonstrate unfitness for the U.S. Senate. Despite this, O’Neill acknowledged that Platner may be struggling personally and could potentially be seeking attention or influenced by alcohol in some instances.
O’Neill expressed hope in seeing Platner’s future conduct, advocating for forgiveness while noting personal experiences with similar lapses in judgment. Fox News Digital has reached out to Platner’s campaign for a comment.
