Ferrari has introduced the Luce, its first fully electric vehicle. This new model is a significant move for the Italian sports car maker, coming during challenging times amid the luxury electric vehicle market.
The Luce, a five-seater, is one of Ferrari’s notable ventures into electric vehicles. This initiative comes as luxury car manufacturers face difficulties and ambitious goals as they shift to electric technology.
Despite being equipped with over half a ton of batteries and electrical systems, Ferrari engineers are confident in the Luce’s ability to handle high-speed turns capably. The big question remains: will affluent buyers be willing to invest over $500,000 on an electric Ferrari that lacks the traditional design and distinct engine sound associated with the brand?
Angus MacKenzie from MotorTrend comments on Ferrari’s significant investment in a product with uncertain market potential. He notes that nervousness about this venture would be a reasonable stance.
Luce, meaning “light” in Italian, marks a unique chapter in Ferrari’s nearly 80-year history of road-car production. To develop Luce’s design, Ferrari collaborated with LoveFrom, a creative agency established by Jony Ive, former Apple design chief, and industrial designer Marc Newson. Their work on the glass and polished aluminum frame enables the car to nearly reach speeds of 200 miles per hour.
