Utah Toddlers Missing Amid Custody Dispute, AMBER Alert Issued

1 month ago 0

Two young boys from Utah, ages 22 months and 10 months, have been reported missing and are considered in immediate danger. Their father, described as ‘seriously depressed,’ failed to meet for a scheduled custody exchange. The incident led to an AMBER Alert being issued in Saratoga Springs on May 16.

The missing boys are Will Richman, who is 22 months old, and Wesley Richman, aged 10 months. Their father, Dane Stephen Richman, has been named as a suspect. Concerns arose when he missed a court-related deposition linked to an ongoing custody battle. The children’s mother first alerted police requesting a welfare check and contacted them again when the children were not returned during the arranged exchange.

“Please, we need your help and prayers for these boys,” a family member stated.

The AMBER Alert described the father, Dane Stephen Richman, as being under financial distress and having sold his possessions. He abandoned his home, adding to the concerns. The father is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing 195 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. His children have blonde hair and blue eyes. Will is 2 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 31 pounds, whereas Wesley is 2 feet 2 inches tall and weighs around 23 pounds.

Authorities believe they might be traveling in a Black Toyota Camry with Utah license plate A561HL. However, there is a possibility that the vehicle has a temporary tag with an obscured plate.

A relative, Kate Walters, took to social media, mentioning the urgent need for public assistance, declaring them abducted. “My sister’s children have been abducted,” she stated, urging for help and prayers.

Understanding AMBER Alerts

An AMBER Alert, which stands for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, is a critical emergency alert system issued when a child under 17 is abducted and considered in serious danger. Upon verification by law enforcement that the situation meets specific criteria, the alert is broadcast. This disseminates details about the child, suspect, and vehicle-related information across TV, radio, highway signs, and mobile alerts.

This alert system, since its inception, has contributed to the recovery of over 1,000 missing children in the United States. It aims to mobilize the public during the crucial initial hours of an abduction. Law enforcement underscores the importance of immediate action, as these alerts are generally issued within hours of a reported abduction to boost the likelihood of finding the missing child safely.
