Willow Nightingale Forfeits TBS Championship Due to Injury

4 weeks ago 0

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star Willow Nightingale recently relinquished her TBS Championship following an injury. This injury also prevented her from participating in the Owen Hart Tournament. A new champion will soon be determined. On Saturday, during the “Collision” broadcast, AEW announced the introduction of a ‘Survival of the Fittest’ match for crowning the next champion.

Traditionally seen in Ring of Honor events, the ‘Survival of the Fittest’ match is an elimination format where participants are removed upon being pinned, and the last competitor standing claims victory. The women’s world championship at Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor featured such a match, with Athena retaining her title.

The new TBS champion will be announced during the July 1 episode of “Dynamite.” To determine the competitors for this event, six matches will occur.

Willow Nightingale captured her second TBS Championship by defeating Mercedes Moné at “Dynamite: New Year’s Smash.” She held the title for 140 days. The TBS Championship is recognized alongside the TNT Championship as a prestigious belt for female wrestlers not vying for the main title.

“Collision” Match Highlights

In “Collision,” Konosuke Takeshita retained the AEW International Championship, defeating Daniel Garcia. It marked his first defense after securing the title against Kazuchika Okada at Double or Nothing. Despite his victory, Takeshita faced immediate challenges post-match from the Don Callis Family, featuring Rocky Romero, Brian Cage, Lance Archer, and a returning Jack Doyle.

Simultaneously, Jon Moxley, who was on commentary, was attacked by Shane Taylor, Shawn Dean, and Carlie Bravo. Fellow Death Riders member Marina Shafir also engaged in the conflict. “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong intervened to assist Takeshita, with the brawl still occurring as “Collision” concluded.
