New Jersey Woman’s Fatal Stabbing Under Investigation

Investigators in New Jersey are probing the circumstances around the fatal stabbing of Alyne Espinal at her home in Somerville. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office reported that Espinal, aged 46, was found with multiple lacerations to her chest, neck, and thigh. She was pronounced dead at the residence.

Her husband, Ignacio Espinal, 55, was apprehended in West New York, New Jersey. He faces charges of first-degree murder in connection with his wife’s death. According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, he is also charged with third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and third-degree hindering.

“The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence,” stated the Prosecutor’s Office.

Police responded to a 911 call shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The call raised concerns for the wellbeing of a woman residing on Brookside Avenue. Officers discovered Alyne Espinal dead from multiple stab wounds inside her Somerville apartment.

The investigation remains active as authorities gather testimonies and examine evidence to determine the full details of this tragic event.
