President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah representatives have agreed to cease hostilities. This statement followed conversations aimed at halting the conflict between the parties.
Via Truth Social, President Trump expressed his discussions with Netanyahu and urged him not to conduct a significant military raid in Beirut, Lebanon. Trump stated, “I had a conversation with Bibi Netanyahu today, asking him not to go into a major raid of Beirut, Lebanon. He turned his Troops around. Thank you Bibi! I also had a conversation with Representatives of the Leaders of Hezbollah, and they agreed to stop shooting at Israel, and its soldiers. Likewise, Israel agreed to stop shooting at them.” He further added, “Let’s see how long that lasts — Hopefully it will be for ETERNITY!”
The Lebanese Presidency X account confirmed a similar proposal, suggesting an agreement where Israel would refrain from targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs while Hezbollah would cease fire towards Israel. It mentioned that “the ceasefire framework” aimed to cover all Lebanese territories.
Meetings are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday to further evaluate and build upon this progress, as per the Lebanese Presidency X account. The two sides have been observing a ceasefire since mid-April, according to the Associated Press. This agreement comes amidst ongoing U.S. negotiations with Iran with hopes of reaching a favorable outcome.
